Honoring One of Our Founders – Dr. rainwater

Dr. Weldon Rainwater dedicated his life to serving others.

For 45 years, he cared for children as a pediatrician, offering not only medical expertise but compassion, reassurance, and a steady presence to generations of families. His commitment to healing extended beyond the exam room. As a veteran of the U.S. Army, a man of deep faith, and an active member of his church and community, Dr. Rainwater lived a life rooted in service.

He believed that caring for others was not just a profession—it was a calling.

That calling helped shape the foundation of what we now know as the Jonesboro Church Health Center. Dr. Rainwater was among those who believed that access to healthcare should never depend on a person’s ability to pay. He gave his time, his leadership, and his heart to building something that would care for people long after his own years of practice had ended.

Today, that legacy lives on in a powerful and tangible way.

Under the leadership of Medical Director Dr. Rick Tate, and through the generous service of volunteer physicians Dr. Kevin Ganong, Dr. Douglas Maglothin, Dr. James Maxwell, Dr. James Nahmias, and Dr. Mark Sifford, that same calling continues to be answered.

These doctors give their time to care for patients who might otherwise go without. They show up not for recognition, but because they believe in compassionate, accessible healthcare for all.

Because of founders’ vision, and because of the physicians who carry it forward today, lives are being changed every single day.

This National Doctor’s Day, we honor a legacy of service that continues to grow—one patient, one visit, one act of compassion at a time.
